I NEED YOU TO KNOW
It’s Not Just You.
You say to yourself this time it will work, I’m going to be serious about it [as though you haven’t been every other time]. It’s the same plan you had in January, and September, and the January before that.
You got the kids off to school, yourself off to work and put out all the fires through the day. You’re finally home. And you can’t summon the energy to change out of your work clothes, let alone get through the workout you told yourself you would absolutely do today.
The GP appointment for yourself was finally booked. You had a list. You got through some of it, remembered two more things in the carpark and came home with about half of what you went in for.
Someone suggests cutting out gluten. You did that in 2019. And dairy and FODMAPs and there was a stretch without sugar in there too. You’ve stopped correcting people. Nodding is quicker than explaining.
And Then, A Flicker...
Someone explains why looking after your health is harder and something in you goes still.
Then the thought arrives. You know, the one where you're using it as an excuse.
But you read something that names your exact experience. The way you use to be able to manage your health before peri-menopause changed the rules. The way your body inconveniently signals your brain, making standing up without your heart beating off the charts no longer the norm. The way being neurodivergent makes looking after your health harder, and looking after your health makes being neurodivergent harder.
And somewhere in all of it there’s a thought you don't quite trust yet. That maybe the problem was never you.
It’s Not Just You.
It Was Me Too.
AND NONE OF THIS IS A MOTIVATION OR CONSISTENCY PROBLEM.
The plans you've tried were built for steady energy and tidy weeks and for someone who has spoons left at the end of the day. Yours doesn't work like that, and neither does mine.
An intro call is where we start.
