Cookies Policy
The short version
This website uses cookies. Not the delicious kind (unfortunately), but the little bits of data that help websites work properly and understand how people use them.
Some cookies are essential, they keep the website running. Others help me understand what's working so I can make things better. And a few come from third-party tools like Google that help with booking and analytics.
You can say no to non-essential cookies. The site will still work.
What are cookies anyway?
Cookies are tiny text files that get stored on your device when you visit a website. They help sites remember things like whether you've dismissed a pop-up, or how you arrived at the site. They're not malicious (despite the ominous-sounding name) and they don't contain personal details like your name or email unless you've specifically entered that information.
The cookies this site uses
Squarespace Essential cookies
This website is built with Squarespace, the below cookies keep the website functioning. They can't be switched off because without them, things would break.
Squarespace analytics cookies
These help me understand how people use the website, they’re things like which pages get visited most, how long people stay and where traffic comes from. This information helps me make the site more useful. It doesn't identify you personally.
Google Analytics 4 cookies
*Google sets these for 2 years, but browsers like Chrome and Safari cap them at around 400 days.
Google Appointment Scheduler cookies
When you use the booking calendar embedded on this site, Google may place cookies to make the booking process work smoothly and to protect against spam.
If you're signed into a Google account:
Because the booking calendar is powered by Google, visitors who are logged into their Google account will see additional authentication cookies. These are set by Google (not by this website) and include:
These cookies are managed by Google and persist based on your Google account settings, not this website. If you'd prefer not to have these cookies, you can:
Sign out of Google before visiting
Use a private/incognito browser window
Manage your Google account cookies at myaccount.google.com
For full details, see Google's Cookie Policy.
MailerLite cookies
If you sign up for my newsletter (The Footnote¹) or interact with subscription forms on this site, MailerLite may place these cookies:
Managing cookies yourself:
You can control cookies through your browser settings:
Chrome
Firefox
Safari
Edge
Blocking all cookies might mean some features don't work properly like remembering that you've already closed a pop-up.
Third-party services
The cookies from Google (Analytics and Appointment Scheduler) and MailerLite are governed by their own privacy policies:
Google Privacy Policy
Google Cookies Policy
MailerLite Privacy Policy
I don't have control over how these services handle data, but I've chosen them because they're functional, widely used and comply with privacy regulations like GDPR. That said, Google in particular collects data as a core part of its business model, so if that's a concern for you, the options in the Google section above (signing out, using incognito mode) can help limit what's tracked.
Changes to this policy
If I make changes to how cookies are used on this site, I'll update this policy and change the "Effective Date" date at the bottom.
